New Items!
Quick little update, we have added a few new items to find around the site!

Steamed Lobster and Lobster Tail are Gourmet Cuisine that restock in the General Store (RARE) for now, and they give both hunger and happiness!
Planting Onions and Leek Seeds have been added to the seed pool to grow Red Onion and Leek.
I have also made a change to fishing: higher tier bait now has an increased chance to catch more rare fish and a lower chance to catch common fish. We have a bunch of fish to release in the coming weeks!

Open Alpha!
We made it to open Alpha! The migration to the new site went pretty smoothly, only a few Verpoint hiccups...
I do truly thank you all for being part of this process, changing the name was not an easy decision, but we really wanted that clean slate to make our own story, and it should clear up a lot of confusion. I hope you all can still find some nostalgia with the sprinkles of Verpets around!
I did want to give all our new users a warm welcome, and I hope you are enjoying the site! I have made a list of the major features for new users, I highly recommend exploring all of then that you can!
Your Pets
Head on over to Explore to find your first pet!
Visit My Pets to see all of your pets and pick your active pet. There are a few activities that need an active pet with you, so be sure to set one!
You earn bond points by feeding, playing, battling, and mining with your pet. Spend them on permanent perks on the Bond Perks page.
Keep your pets fed! Stock up your Pantry, and if you're running low, the Soup Kitchen will feed one pet per day. Don't forget to add to the soup if you can!
Take your active pet to the Park to raise its happiness while you hang out there, maybe even chat with some friends.
Check out the Dreymire Caverns to transform your pet using carvings or gemstones.
Essence and Ether
Essence is the main currency you earn and spend around the site. Ether is the premium currency that will be used in the Cash Shop coming later.
Keep your Essence safe in the Bank, and be sure to collect your interest!
Sell what you don't need at the Pawn Shop. If you change your mind, you can buy it back (within a reasonable amount of time of course...)!
Shopping and Trading
Browse the shops around Hearthstead. They restock regularly, so check back often!
Open your own User Shop to sell items to other players.
Use Shop Seeker to find the best price on an item across every player shop.
Use Trading to list items and take offers from other players.
Exploring Vertua
Hearthstead is the heart of Vertua, start here and check out the town map!
Gathering and Crafting
Fishing: grab a pole and some bait from the Bait Shed, wait for a ripple, and reel it in. Better rods and bait make it easier!
Mining: bring a pickaxe, your active pet, and a full lantern, then dig for ores or other treasures.
Gardening: plant seeds, water them regularly, and harvest when they're ready. Each garden type grows its own unique plants.
Berry Bush: stop by for some free berries.
Smelter: turn your ores into useful materials, such as Gemstones and Petrified Wood.
Whittling Bench: carve Petrified Wood into Carvings using chisels.
Alchemy and Repair Bench: brew potions and repair gear. Level up to lower your chance of failing.
Fin Chop: chop up your catch for tasty dishes. The more accurately you chop, the better the dish!
Coliseum
Gear up your pet and fight monsters in the Coliseum. Spend stat points on Strength, Dexterity, and more to build your pet your way.
Get randomly generated drops from monsters, and exclusive unique or items!
Craft your gear with orbs in the Crafting section!
Buy and sell gear on the Equipment Market.
Games

Hearthstead!
Vertua finally has a real map to explore!
The first town we have (sludge!) made is called Hearthstead (Note: The map isn't fully shaded yet, soon!). Hearthstead is a cozy little town center with the Soup Kitchen, the Bank, the General Store, Snug & Stitch, the Park, and Trash Cleanup down on the beach. Some of these locations have been taken off the sidebar, so take note!

Next, we changed how the site handles throttling. Before, all of the clicks on the site counted toward one big shared limit, so if you were speeding through a game you could get hit with a "Too Many Requests" page while trying to do something totally unrelated, like buy an item, or click that Spin button on Slots one more time. Now each page keeps its own count, so going wild in one place won't lock you out of everything else.
Shops and User Shops also now have a Quantity selector, - & + with a input in the middle. This can go up to 10, just to keep it a LITTLE competitive if everyone happens to be flocking to one item in a shop. This change also got implemented in the Inventory modal as well. Speaking of that modal, it not auto-updates the quantity and amount of happiness / hunger the item will restore on your pet, should come in handy!
Last but not least, the Soup Kitchen and Mining pages have a new layout. Geraldine and Jade now stand to the left of everything instead of sitting on top of the page, which makes both pages feel a lot less cluttered (on mobile they just shrink down and sit above everything).
Soon I will be locking down any changes and getting the site moved over the Dreymire and open to the public, exciting!
Whittling Bench!
We have a fun update for you all tonight, there is finally a new way to create Carvings! This was a gap that has needed closing for a while, we could always make Gemstones, but never the Carvings we actually wanted.
First up is the Whittling Bench. This is where you carve Petrified Wood into Carvings, slot your Chisels, and hope for the best! Each Carving has its own base odds of succeeding, and a better Chisel both raises those odds, and typically has more uses. A carving takes an hour at the bench (subject to change). If it splits on you, you get Wood Shavings back instead, one pile for every Petrified Wood you put in.
Two important things about Chisels. You can only have one Chisel slotted at a time, and if you slot a new one while the old one still has uses left, the old one WILL be destroyed, so use the cheap ones up first. You also cannot unslot a Chisel, because who the heck wants to buy a used Chisel?! You can pick up a Crude Chisel from the Trembling Prospectors as needed, and every tier of Chisel sits in the reward pool for Carver's Commissions.
You might be wondering, how the heck do I get Petrified Wood? It is quite rare at the moment and can still be found while Mining, but we are introducing some new ways to get your hands on it. Mining now also turns up a debris called Gemstone Dust, and 25 Pine Logs together with 10 Gemstone Dust will petrify into a single Petrified Wood in the Smelter. Pine Logs are grown from Pine Tree Seeds in a soil Garden, and those seeds are one of the rewards from Carver's Commissions, as well as findable in the Forest. Pines take their time to grow (about three days). Fishing treasure chests now have a chance of Petrified Wood as well. We are hoping all of these together make Carvings easier to reach, while still being a fun goal to work towards.
This also lets us do cool custom Chisels later on that can only carve certain pet species, which we know you will love!
There has been a fair amount of code changed across the site to make all of this work, so if any bugs pop up please report them as soon as possible so we can squash them ASAP!

August Updates!
Good evening! We have an exciting update for you all tonight, sorry it took so long to get going, but life happens!
First off, we have Zippuino Racing! Think a duck race style game where you can bet on a Zippuino plushie to hop to the finish line. A winning pick pays 4x your bet, and each Zippuino has an equal chance of winning! You can stake between 50 and 500 VP, with 15 races a day. We hope in the future to change the graphics on this to a custom scene, but for now the track is drawn in the browser.
Next we have a few Coliseum updates! The Petrified Orb is now a global drop, meaning it has a chance to drop from any monster you battle. This orb randomly locks one modifier on a Rare item that already has all 4 modifiers, so if you get lucky and lock a T3, every reroll after that keeps it. We hope this will make crafting a bit more engaging and see some Petrified items on the market! Please note, the drop rate is boosted while we test it, have fun!
There are also now Battle Stances. These stances give you a boost in certain areas, but there is always a downside.
Balanced: normal stats.
Aggressive: +25% damage, armor down to 70%, minus 10 block chance.
Defensive: minus 20% damage, +25% armor, +10 block chance, and a further 15% cut to any hit that gets through.
Swift: attack power down to 85%, +0.35 attack speed, +5 critical strike chance.
Let us know how this affects your battles, we are curious to find out!
Lastly, Increased Damage Multiplier rolls have been substantially buffed. This change affects existing items as well.
There have been a few other small changes:
Fixed a flash of light that was appearing for some dark mode users.
Alignment on trading icons.
Orb crafting page revamped.
Selection in Zippuino Racing matches Dreymire Caverns and Mining selections now.

Pet Bonds, Shorgi & More!
We hope everyone has been having a good summer! I personally have been on a bit of a break, but the past week or two been back into the swing of things. We have some new things to introduce!
The newest feature is Pet Bonds. Your pets now build a bond with you the more time you spend together, and you can spend that bond on permanent perks for them. You can find the new page under My Pets, Bond Perks. We really hope to expand on this, but wanted to get some feedback first on how it is, is this something we want to continue, how "grindy" it feels, etc.
Bond points are earned by:
Feeding your pet = 1 point per 5 hunger restored
Playing with your pet = 1 point per 5 happiness gained
Winning a Coliseum battle = 3 points, 1 point for a loss
Fishing = 1 point per catch
Mining = 1 point per ore or debris found
Bond points belong to the individual pet that earned them, so the pet you take everywhere will be the one that unlocks things first. There are three perks to spend them on, each costing 2,500 points:
Coliseum Stat Point = Grants that pet 1 unspent stat point to allocate in the Coliseum, up to 10 times.
Miner's Instinct = While that pet is active, every ore strike in the Mines has a 10% chance to turn up a bonus ore, stacking up to 30%.
Angler's Luck = While that pet is active, the chance of a treasure chest while Fishing goes up by 5 points, stacking up to 15 points.
Fishing and Mining both have a new companion box at the top of the page so you can see which pet is tagging along and what they are doing for you.
We also have a new pet species, the Shorgi! You can find them while Exploring the Ocean.
"In ancient Vertua there was no equal to the prowess of the Shorgi on land or in water, they were once behemoths that roamed in packs. But in modern times these behemoths are now perfectly pet sized, and while they still roam the lands and waters in packs these hot headed creatures tumble and fight in the oceans and on the beaches of Vertua. If you can withstand their snappy mouths and rough and tumble attitude, then you have yourself a fiercely loyal friend for life."

The Shorgi Carving has been added to the Angler's Trove, and to the Verdoku reward pool alongside the other carvings.
Gardening has picked up a new plant too! Pink Flower Seeds can now be found while Exploring the Plains, and will grow into a Pink Flower in a soil garden. They take about a day to grow, with the usual chance of getting your seed back at harvest.
Reporting has been rebuilt and is now available everywhere, not just on board posts. You will see a small flag icon on shouts, user profiles, pet profiles, user shops, trades, board posts and VerMail messages. Clicking it opens a pop-up where you can tell us in your own words what is wrong before you send it, which helps our moderation tools.
Trading has had some QoL work:
Trades now have their own page and permalink, so you can link a trade directly to someone.
Every user has a public trades page, so you can see everything one player has up for offer in one place.
You can now edit a trade's buyout price and wanted description after posting it, instead of deleting and starting over.
VerMail conversations now read like a chat. Messages are no longer split across pages, the oldest sits at the top, the newest at the bottom, and the page opens scrolled to the latest message.
A few smaller changes:
The Soup Kitchen cost is now capped at 2,500VP, so our wealthiest players are not paying silly amounts for soup.
User shop items are now capped at 100,000VP each.
The header banner is now tinted in dark mode so it blends in properly instead of glowing at you.
As always, thanks for helping us create Verpets!
Galleries!
You might notice a new Gallery option when you visit your inventory, we have implemented a view only area where you can show off your items! Users can also search galleries using the Shop Seeker and item information search bar option. You can also use the Quick Sort to quickly move items to your Gallery.
At this time, users are only able to create 1 Gallery, and there are default sorting options, as well as a new Custom Sort option where you can hand pick the way items are displayed!
Hope this is a welcomed addition for all you collectors!
